This study focuses on the compressive behavior and energy absorption performance of the multi-layer lattice-web reinforced composite cylinders under quasi-static lateral compression. The effects of the lattice-web layout and ceramsite filler on the failure modes, crushing response and energy absorption performance were investigated and analyzed.

The effect of axial impact on thin-walled circular tubes, which are reinforced externally by a glass fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) composite, is studied in this paper. The influence of circumferential reinforcement on the static and dynamic crushing behaviour of steel tubes is examined.

The crushing walls of the central two honeycomb cells in Fig. 9(e) visually show the mutual contact behavior. At this stage, the compressive load in Fig. 8(a) increases rapidly with the compressive deformation, and the honeycombs would behave more like a dense solid material at the end of this stage.
The web crushing rules in EN 1992 are investigated by comparison with tests. Although they give significant increases compared with past practice, they appear to be largely valid within the range of tests. There are, however, some very …

The web crushing strengths of 16 reinforced and prestressed concrete I-beams are reported. The principal variables of the test specimens are the ratio of yield force in the prestressed steel to yield force in the nonprestressed steel and the area of vertical stirrups. The test strengths are compared with the upper limit on shear strength given ...

The web crushing rules in EN 1992 are investigated by comparison with tests. Although they give significant increases compared with past practice, they appear to be largely valid within the range of tests. There are, however, some very marginal values and some slightly below the safe ratio of tests to predictions of 1.0. These are all for cases where the 80% yield rule governs.
